Hi,
My name is Bob Tolsma and I
came to CU Online as Executive Director in March, 2000. Before
that I was Vice-Provost and Chief Information Officer for
the University Center in Rochester, Minnesota; Associate Dean
for Instructional Development for the Education Network of
Maine; and a faculty member at Empire State College in New
York.
It was back in the 80’s
while working at Empire State College that I first got hooked
on educational technology, bought my first computer (a Commodore
64), and used one of the early computer conference software
programs (CAUCUS) to teach my students. Although a lot of
my time is spent now on administrative planning, committees,
etc…we’re always trying to look ahead at future
developments in learning technology and I still get to see
(and sometimes play with) a lot of exciting new instructional
technology.
Those interests have proven
valuable at home too, where the skill my three teenage sons
probably value most is my teaching them how to create music
CDs. Apart from parenting, life away from technology (sort
of) includes a little cooking (but I love those neat kitchen
gadgets), hiking (maybe this year I’ll go far enough
to justify GPS), and following the Cleveland Indian’s
baseball season (what did I ever do before MLB games used
streaming audio?).
Feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions,
or snow reports.
