There are few careers that are as rewarding, demanding, exhilarating and challenging as that of a special education teacher. Currently, there is a critical shortage of special education teachers in the state of Colorado as well as across the country.
This online UCD Special Education program emphasizes the development of reflective practitioners through trans-disciplinary training. This program strives to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population of students.
Program Summary
This UCD online licensure program offers you the opportunity to obtain special education endorsement in four semesters.
This ten course SPED program (26 credits) is designed for teachers already licensed to teach in Colorado. Specifically, this is program is perfect if you are:

A teacher without the formal credentials required to serve students with disabilities.
- Already in possession of a general education license and wish to build on that expertise.
- Looking to improve your ability to meet the needs of all learners.
An optional Master's Degree can be completed concurrently with the endorsement program.
Why This Special Education Generalist Endorsement?
- Upon graduation, you will be licensed in Colorado to teach children and youth, ages 5-21.
- The UCD Special Education program is fully accredited by the Colorado Department of Education and the Council for Exceptional Children.
- You can mix and match on campus and online courses, which lets you keep your own schedule, while giving you the chance to attend your 20-25 peer cohort.
According to the Teacher Supply and Demand in the State of Colorado Report (2003), the special education teacher workforce is expected to grow at a faster rate than the general education teacher workforce.
