Certificate Programs Offered

  • Adolescent Literacy: Designed to help you reach middle and high school readers and writers - especially those struggling academically.
  • Content Instruction for English Learners: Designed for content - area teachers (math, science, social studies, etc.) who have English language learners in their classrooms.
  • Literacy and Language Development for ELL:  Developed in response to public school districts’ need to improve reading and writing achievement for students whose first language is other than English. Access this certificate through one of our participating school districts.
  • Early Literacy: Geared to the development of P-3 readers and writers - including English language learners.
  • Math Education: Designed for elementary, middle and support teachers; covers both content and pedagogy for mathematics.
  • Designing eLearning Environments: Developed in response to a need for on-line learning and intended for K-12 teachers, higher ed instructors, trainers, content experts, and corporate instructional developers.
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL): Provides a foundation in teaching English as a second or foreign language in secondary, post-secondary, and adult educational contexts.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder: A series of three graduate level courses that build a specific set of evidence-based practices for teaching children at preschool, elementary, and secondary levels.
  • Digital Storytelling: Through intensive on-site and online workshops, you will create, produce, and use digital stories to enhance your work effectiveness in the education, non-profit, or business environment.
  • Culturally Responsive Urban Educator:  Designed to assist educators to better meet the needs of urban students who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse.
  • Teacher Leadership: Offered in conjunction with the Front Range BOCES, this certificate is designed to improve student learning through increasing the aspirations, knowledge and skills of teachers.
  • Multi-Cultural Counseling: Developed to increase the quality of counseling services provided to ethnic and other minority populations. Participants must have an MA in counseling.

Common Components

  • Three Courses
    Most programs consist of three courses totaling nine semester hours.
  • Noted on CU Transcript
    Each certificate program is noted on the student's permanent transcript.
  • Fully Applicable Towards an MA
    These programs are designed to "stand alone" however, most courses count fully towards a Master's Degree.

  • Cost per semester hour is $225-$265
