Welcome!
Really great opportunities don't come around all the time; otherwise, they would just be called 'options'. That's why this UC Denver Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CTESOL) was specifically created - so you could seize opportunities as they arise.
This graduate certificate prepares you with invaluable skills to teach English as you travel abroad. However, this certificate may also serve your needs if you're an international student who wants to teach English in your home country or other countries.
- Did you know that English is the most widespread language in the world and is more widely spoken and written than any other language?
- Did you know that over 400 million people use the English vocabulary as a mother tongue, only surpassed in numbers, but not in distribution by speakers of the many varieties of Chinese?
- Did you know that over 700 million people, speak English, as a foreign language?
Why This CTESOL Program?
This UC Denver graduate certificate is the only online TESOL program in the Rocky Mountain region. Additionally, the University of Colorado Denver is unique in that you can mix on campus courses with online courses and still graduate with the same UC Denver certificate.
Typically, this 12 credit certificate can be completed within a year. And since UC Denver is a traditional brick and mortar university, you can meet with your professors face to face if you have any questions.
Program Requirements
You can complete this certificate as a non-degree seeking graduate student, which means that you only need to fill out the non-degree application. However, you must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent to be accepted to the program.
If you're a non-native speaker of English, you're required to submit an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) report showing a score of at least 580. If you have a score below 580 but above 500 on the TOEFL, you may be admitted conditionally to the program.
